Frequently Asked Questions
Is the treatment covered by insurance?
Yes, I’m member of CANADIAN UNION OF OSTEOPATHS (CPMDQ) and it’s receipts are accepted by the most insurance companies of Ontario.
Do you provide medical diagnoses?
No. In Canada, osteopathic manual practitioners are not permitted to provide medical diagnoses. My role is to assess and address imbalances in the body’s structure through manual therapy, supporting natural healing processes.
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy focused on restoring balance, mobility, and function to the body’s tissues. It addresses restrictions in muscles, fascia, joints, and circulation, aiming to enhance the body’s ability to heal itself naturally.
Is an osteopath a doctor?
In Canada, osteopathic manual practitioners (DOMP) are not medical doctors. They are trained in manual assessment and treatment techniques, but do not prescribe medication, perform surgery, or diagnose medical conditions.
What makes thermo-assisted osteopathy different from regular manual therapy?
Thermo-assisted osteopathy combines traditional manual techniques with controlled heat application, such as sauna treatments and heated compresses. Heat helps improve circulation, softens tight tissues, and enhances the effectiveness of soft tissue release and myofascial techniques.
How should I prepare for my first treatment?
It is best to arrive well-hydrated and wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You will be guided through the session, and no special preparation is needed beyond an open mind and willingness to relax. For the steam room treatments the swimming suit recommended.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on individual goals and conditions. Some clients feel significant improvement after just one or two treatments, while others benefit from a longer, progressive plan to address deeper or chronic issues.
Is heat therapy safe for everyone?
While heat therapy is generally safe, certain conditions—such as cardiovascular issues, active infections, or pregnancy—may require adjustments. You should consult with your family doctor to confirm whether exposure to high temperatures is safe for you.
Can I combine osteopathic treatments with other therapies (massage, physiotherapy, chiropractic)?
Yes, osteopathic treatments can complement other therapies. They work well alongside massage therapy, physiotherapy, and chiropractic care by supporting overall mobility, circulation, and structural balance.
What exactly happens during the hot room treatments?
During hot room treatments, the therapist uses the same set of manual techniques—such as stretching, light stroking, and effleurage. However, instead of direct skin-to-skin contact, the therapist applies a bundle of heated leaves as a medium between their hands and the client’s tissues. This approach minimizes direct contact while allowing for effective soft tissue work and heat transfer.
